Does anyone know if the brass fitting on the end of the oil drain hose for the ZZ8 is the same size as the older XR7. My boat is 45 minutes away and forgot to check.

If you are doing an oil change in the ZZ8 here are a few things to consider (I have done four in mine).
1. Bring lots of small plastic bags to triple up and put around the oil filter and fuel filter (if changing) because access to them is very tight and spilling fluids is too easy.
2. Bring a good metal filter wrench. There is VERY little room to operate when removing the oil filter and getting it off is a challenge without a very solid wrench.
3. If you are changing the fuel / water filter (not the FCC) bring some 12" long zip ties. You will need to remove the blower hose (cut its zip ties) to gain access to the fuel filter. A good metal wrench (no rubber strap wrench) is also needed because access to the filter is VERY tight.
4. The ZZ8 is tricky to fill with oil because the oil drains very slowly into the pan. With a new dry oil filter, fill the crankcase with 6.5 qts and let it sit for over an hour before adding more oil if needed. I have filled with 6.5 quarts, checked the oil level 10 minutes later, it was low so I added more oil. But the next day the oil level was well over the dipstick max so I had to remove oil.
Good luck!

Thanks. Just doing the oil today have 20 hours on it, I didn't know fuel filter needed changed, will do that soon. I always did them on my old XR7 that was a pain to remove the oil filter.

I don’t have a ZZ8 (ZR409), and I haven’t done my FCC or water/fuel yet, but the problem sounds universal - containing fluid during filter removal. Last time I did the oil I used two plastic shopping bags nested together and it held the mess, but barely. Do you find gallon ziplock bags work better?

Got the oil done was way easier than my G21, I see what you mean about the oil level, was a bit tricky. Thanks for the help. Now I need to order the fuel filter and replace that next week.

Finally got the R077019 Spin-On Fuel Filter.
I have never done the fuel filter, I will put oil in my oil filter before I install it, should I do the same for the fuel water separator filter and half fill with gas before install?
Or do I just cycle thru start stop procedure a few times to prime it, or both?

No need to pre-fill oil or fuel filters. Yes. Power up the boat, press start once. That whining noise you hear is the fuel pump. Cycle it three times to prime filter. Then start normally.

My assumption is that the fuel filter (oil filter looking one near fuel tank) is not under pressure when the engine is off. I’ll see some gas drain out, but it isn’t going to spay out when loosening the filter. Is that correct? Some Target bags and a few rags should catch the mess.
It's been a very long time since I’ve changed one. I bet I ran the same filter on my 97 Ski Nautique for a decade or more. That carbureted beast didn’t see many hours each season. Not the best maintenance practice.
