My 2006 SV-211 has a cracked muffler across the top. May try to patch it before ordering a new one. As I was trying to figure out root cause I thought I would look in the exhaust for blockage that could have generated enough pressure to crack the exhaust and I found this. There is a huge wad of dirty/wet fiberglass. I just bought the boat 2 weeks ago and we put 20 hrs on it with no issues. Could this be root cause? I pulled and cut a big wad of it out of there. Does the muffler have this type of packing inside? Could a baffle or something broken in the freeze that allowed this material to move into the exhaust opening? Does anyone have info on what the inside of a muffler looks like? Seems like I may need to go ahead and order a new muffler but I wanted to see what the forum thinks. Would the patch be a waste of time if I can't get all this packing clear? Thank you!

A friend of mine made a comment that maybe the loose fiberglass fibers were an original factory defect that worked their way into the outlet port of the muffler. I didn't want to attempt this, but I think I am going to start the muffler removal process today and see how far I get. I dislocated my shoulder a few weeks ago while wakeboarding, and it popped out again yesterday when I was reaching up into that exhaust port. It may be hard to work this thing out of there with one good arm.

If you decide to replace it, I have a very nice used one for sale. It is a direct fit, and came off of a 2007 SV-211 that we ended up doing an engine swap on.

I got it out and it looks like the crack goes all the way around the top. The inside seems to be shedding fiberglass which caused a clog and overpressured the muffler. I don't know what would cause the fiberglass to shed like that but I have ordered a new muffler to be safe and make sure I get something that will last.
