    Rudder replacement 2008 230

While I replace the steering cable and prop, I want to also replace the rudder as it is already 14 years old and showing some signs of wear due to algae cleaning.

Ordering a rudder is easy, but how does it seals in the rudder bearing? Is that a simple o ring or a cord? Is it also wise to replace that while doing it?

Wax rope packing creates the seal in the rudder port inside the boat. You will see it when you remove the old rudder.

You are not in the states, but look at Nautique Parts and Discount Inboard Marine so you can see examples. It is called packing rope or flax packing. You need 3/16 (4.78mm) diameter.

One more thing, over at correctcraftfan.com, someone did a great write up about replacing the steering cable and dropping the rudder to clean and grease. Search for it so you have an idea what it looks like.

        Thanks for the reply!

I will order through NautiqueParts. Great service.

        I will include the rope.

        Thanks
