    01 Ballast Question

My buddies Air Nautique will fill the ballast tanks but not drain. The electric pump works when you hit the fill button but not when you hit the empty. There appears to only be one pump. Anyone have any insight for me? The green light comes on on the dash when you hit the empty button. I assume that the buttons control the polarity for the same pump. There is only one breaker for the launch control system and it is fine.

    Is this the belly tank??

Regardless, I think the 01's use aerator type pumps similar to the bilges, but with an inlet and output.

the empty pump will be low and connect directly to the tank. Get a voltmeter and check for voltage at the pump when the empty is on. I would guess the pump is dead, I had one die on my 02 recently.

    You need Rule 1100 gph's

His boat should have two aerator pumps -- it's not a single pump with reversing polarity. Sounds like either a wire has come undone, or the empty pump has kicked the bucket. Hopefully your bud's AIR will gravity drain like my 01 Super?

The pump setup on the 01's isn't that great. The fill & empty pumps on mine actually feed through each other. The fill pump pushes through the empty pump, and vice-versa. Of course, I guess since it's still running strong I really shouldn't complain.

Thanks for the input. The 01 Air (Sport Nautique) has two tanks (one on each side of the gunnels near the stern).
The inlet pump is just below the alternator in the bilge by the inlet hole in the bottom of the boat.

Where is the output pump located?

I guess I need to follow the plumbing to locate. The boat is 300 miles away so I can't look for it now.

It is under the floor in front of the rear seat. Remove the floor section between the engine cover and the rear seat and you should be able to see it.

does the light on the key pad come on? if not, see if the breaker is popped. If not, the pump is probably fried and needs to be replaced.
