2000 196 with the 5.8 Carb motor. Bogging on acceleration

Hoping I'm not the only one with this issue... found some older threads with similar issues but many posts don't tell us what the final resolution was :-) Hoping someone has insight.

Boat is a 2000 196 Ski Nautique and has the PCM 5.8 carbureted motor. This is my 3rd season and I'm embarrassed to admit that I've lived with this problem for three years now. On acceleration, there's a dead spot when coming out of the hole. If I go hard on the throttle, the boat falls on its face and will stall out if I don't immediately back off the throttle. When I ease back, I can go again as long as I ease into the acceleration. If I ease into the acceleration from the start, I can get through the stutter and it will then accelerate normal and runs like a champ. Boat truely runs great outside of this hard acceleration problem which is why I've lived with it (until this year).

Figured it was the carburetor so replaced this spring with a factory carb replacement from PCM. Dealer installed and has replaced fuel filters, etc. But the problem didn't go away... the stutter / bogging issue is exactly the same as it was.

I have basically no mechanical skills so hoping someone might have faced this issue before and can share how they solved for it.

    1. Accelerator pump circuit.
    2. Timing set to 10-12 degrees BTDC to make 30-34 total degrees advance at WOT.

Do a search on google: summitracing quick flicks accelerator pump
    Watch, learn, go adjust.

Thanks for the suggestion. Watched a few videos and seems simple enough to make sure the tension is good and potentially modify the cam or re-jet if all else seems okay. Going to give a try this weekend.
