2016 SAN 210 dying in light chop over 15MPH. Runs perfectly otherwise.

I've had this phantom issue that multiple marinas can't recreate (and fix). In calm water, the boat runs completely fine at any speed. In some light chop, at speeds above about 15 mph, the engine will suddenly die with no error messages, as if the emergency lanyard is removed. At first, I thought it was related to the manual and metal SurfGate handle coming into contact with a wire behind the throttle/emergency kill switch since I could get it to die when I shifted it to the "3" position where the metal part was closest to the wires. I took the subwoofer out to reposition some of the wires away from the metal, but it continues to die. Also, the wires seem to be securely connected to the emergency kill switch.

I've checked the emergency lanyard and kill switch many times, which is correctly attached.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Both Nautique marinas were not able to recreate the problem, and therefore couldn't diagnose the issue. I'm guessing they lake tested in calmer water.

Any thoughts or tips? Very frustrating as we can't really trust the boat to do anything in terms of water sports. Thanks!

This going to be a tough one. You got any other info? i.e. Does linc system screen go dead or reset? How quick does it die when it dies? You say as if lanyard is removed. Have you tried pulling lanyard to see if same?

My friend had similar problem - if i remember right - it was a frayed wire under the engine cover.

I've tried pulling the lanyard, and the behavior is the same as when the boat dies unexpectedly. That's why I'm thinking it might be some sort of loose wiring associated with it - but from what I can tell, the wiring seems to be okay. Lync/screens remains on, and when it dies, it cuts immediately. No error codes, and it fires back up.

All other general service is up-to-date.

Last year, when we were dealing with the same issue, when I would shift the surf gate lever to the forward most position, I thought it may have been the metal cotter pin that was interacting or coming into contact with either the throttle cable or some wire close by. There's a little bit of play in the surf gate handle which I thought may have been allowing for it to come into contact and short something out.

It seems that some wire somewhere is loosing contact when there's a sudden bump (and by bump, I'm talking light chop).

I had an identical problem on my Super Sport... I replaced the kill switch assembly and that fixed it. Hope yours is that simple too.

Appreciate it. I'm going to to give that a try when I can get my hands on one.

I was out today, and it did pretty well - only died once after a bigger bump.

          Will follow up. Fingers crossed.

I have seen the kill switch fail and cause that same problem. It was odd, it still worked but if I hit a wake or crossed the double up it would occasionally shut off. This was in an older 2005 SAN.

just bypass the kill switch to test. I did on my old 2000. just disconnect the 2 wires and wire them together

Check all of your ground wire connections! Especially the one to the block! Have had this issue myself

Replace the kill switch.. Also, it's possible it could be a bad wire to the back of the kill switch... Have seen this exact thing and that is what it was.
