    Damage from lightning strike?

Has anyone ever had damage from a lightning strike? Recently had a strike on property that damaged electrical appliances/audio/TV in house and boathouse, blew wood off a small land deck, blew a 2' hole in the ground and took out other electrical items... Battery maintainer in boat (08 230) was properly hooked to GFI (which both the GFI and NOCO maintainer are toast now) and the audio system in the boat is now toast (volume all over the place, loud pops and scratches, some speakers not working. Additionally, the boat cranks but will not start now. I checked for any potential tripped accessible fuses and nothing tripped. All nav lights, interior lights and gauges appear to work, but cranks only with no start.
Replaced the GFI and power restored/checked by electrician.
In all, I probably have 3K in other damages before the boat issue, ugh.
Wonder if Skisafe covers this..... TIA

Do you check the ECM (5V and 12V power to sensors, etc...) ? I think that such an electric voltage could probably have damaged it ... It would also be good to be able to read the error codes if there are any.

Here is attached the file with the wiring diagrams and the diagnostics to be done for the 2008 SANTE 230 (have the same ECM with my PCM ZR6 390)

Thank you for those documents! I believe this will be beyond my abilities but I will check the fuses in the fuse block. I honestly don't remember if I heard the fuel pump cycle, so maybe I got lucky and it just popped a fuse.

      Thanks again.

You can easily check the fuses with a DMM, same for relay... Maybe its not so bad, juste a blown fuse or something like that.

So I checked all the fuses in the box by the ECM. The little 5 amp VSW fuse was open/blown. I tried a 15 amp just to see if it would fire up and it failed immediately. My guess is the ECM took a hit and is causing it to immediately fail. Also found out my custom Shadow caster light bar with 3 SCM10CC's took a hit and fried too, ugh.. Guess it's an insurance claim for me... I have had Ski safe for decades, with the exception of a few years here and there without a boat, hopefully they don't kill me on a rate increase or drop me... $1000 deductible.

Being that it was parked on your property it may be covered by your home owners insurance.

I have a claim with Ski Safe started. I am reluctant to file one with my home owners as here in florida, companies are dropping people left and right, and doing huge premium increases. I have about 3k in electronics damages in my house but will probably just eat that so I don't file the claim. ($1000 ded)

I had my Florida house and boat covered by HO insurance but the boat was a 30 foot Tiara hooked to shore power. I would make the claim on this but I am also surprised that you would not clear the deductible on the house.

I was told by a family member who sells Homeowners insurance here in Fla to not even call and ask a question about this to my HO insurance... Even though you don't file a claim they still record it.. Doesn't seem legal...

Yeah...I've operated like on my insurance for years. I only call them when I'm positive I'm going to make claim. All this insurance company marketing about 'easy claims' and 'we're here to help you' is BS. Sure they make claims easy but IMO what they don't tell you is that they are keeping a running risk scorecard and are quick to increase your rates or remove you if they think you belong in a another risk category. I do believe when you share information like 'I had an event and am deciding if I should make a claim' goes on their internal scorecard. Now I have zero evidence to support this but I don't trust the b*st*rds.

If I was to call them, I would pose the question completely differently.....which is 'I was reading my policy to understand my coverages and I have some questions"...and would pose the event as one of coverage scenarios without sharing any information that it actually happened.
