    PerfectPass StarGazer Install Questions - 2006 SANTE210

Has anyone ever done the GPS upgrade to their PerfectPass on 2006 - 2008 with the Nautique gateway box? I have a couple of questions and have run across one problem.
    Questions:
    1. Where did you mount the Stargazer master module? They say under the dash on the right side, but I do not want to screw into something I am not supposed to.
    2. Where did you mount the GPS antenna? PerfectPass said you could mount it under the fiberglass just curious for recommendations.

    Problem:
Everything is plugged up properly, and the PerfectPass unit works and acquires a GPS signal. However, when I turn on the dash lights, no gauges light up, and the fuel gauge goes to empty. However, when I unplug the StarGazer and plug back in the main harness into the gateway box - all gauges light up.

I can't help but will be following as I'll likely need to do this before next season.

Problem solved with the PerfectPass and dash lights - just two wires crossed in the connector. Took 5 minutes over the phone to troubleshoot and another 5 minutes to correct the crossed wires and its up and functioning. Mark@PerfectPass.com was a huge help. I can say enough about their commitment to customer service.

I was hoping you'd call them. They have been very helpful the couple of times I needed help.

Unfortunately, my last contact with them confirmed that I'll need to do this same upgrade.

So, aside from that issue, how was the install?

Install was straightforward. It took me longer to decide where to mount the StarGazer module and antenna than install the unit. Here are some pictures of the final product. Also, I need to replace my display - it works just burnt in the center. I'm hoping NautiqueJeff still has his unit for sale.

Cool, thanks. My display either works or not, hence the need for an upgrade. Unfortunately, I bought and installed a Nautic Laugic GPS system to replace the paddle wheel this spring. It's worked flawlessly, but when the display doesn't work, it makes it very difficult to use.

Well here we go! I have my stargazer sitting here in the box to unpack for install as soon as the weather finally breaks next week. And I too have a 2006 SANTE!

Let me know if you have any questions. It’s a very straightforward install. I'm going to upgrade my display soon.

For those about to install, if you have the keypad to start/stop the boat, you need to unplug it from behind before you fully lift the dash off the helm. To do this - remove the 4 screws (2 on top, 2 on the side) to free the dash so you can lift it up a few inches to allow you to reach up behind the keypad and release the square wiring plug. The original PP gauge in the 2006 boats had issues with moisture building up and making it hard to read the display, so you want to replace it with a new one while you are at it.

Questions for those that have done this, 196Mike, jmo, etc.

                          1) does this upgrade preserve the water temp, air temp, depth functions?
                          2) does this upgrade also control the "analog" speedometer?

                          Thanks.

MN Ryan, so some context here will help, the 2003 - 2009 LE/TE boats have a central unit (Faria gateway) that receives all inputs from the engine, paddle wheel, air/water sensors, etc and then tells all of the gauges what to display. The SG upgrade includes a splicing cable harness (plug and play) so the SG/PP is no longer dependent on the gateway to function, but allows all of the telemetry to continue flowing to the gateway and subsequently to the other gauges, hence all of the other gauges continue to operate as they did before.

hence to answer your questions: 1) yes, 2) No, the analog speedo is still controlled by the paddlewheel or pitot static tubes depending on the year of the boat.

this is all based on my experience converting my 2006 limited edition.

and just to make things worse, the faria gateway units fail over time, which then leads you down the path of buying the conversion kit from Nautique parts.com (if they ever get them back in stock) which entails installing all new analog gauges (except for PP) that get wired directly to the inputs before they hit the gateway, and includes a separate gps speedo puck and gauge - unrelated to the SG puck and gauge. I had the faria conversion kit but never installed it as the only issue I was having was getting false low oil pressure alarms chirping for a second just after turning off the boat.

interestin that your 2007 has perfect pass and not Zero Off, I thought all 2007 and up boats got ZO - maybe that’s just the ski boats,

I think they went to ZO in '08, at least for the 211.

Interesting about the analog speedo. I installed a Nautic Laugic NL4 system last year because I was having issues with the paddle wheel, and that supplies both the PP and analog speedo with speed inputs. I was hoping the SG update would do the same.

I guess I won't know for sure till I try it out. Maybe I can leave the NL4 installed to give the analog speedo it's GPS input, if necessary.
