The horn on my 206 is not working and I need some help identifying the problem. Here's what's occurring.
- Press the dash horn switch, you can hear the relay click in the PCM model.
- PMC module circuit breaker is not popped
- When I check for 12v on the horn wires power/ground wire feed (testing at plug connectors before the horn with the horn disconnected) - no 12v registers
This horn used to work but there's been some monkey business in the area that occurred during the PO's tenure. By monkey business, I mean the following.
- The factory horn is mounted in the air plenum under the dash.
- The horn is likely installed at the factory before the top deck is mounted as there's no apparent way to access the horn in the plenum.
- Someone cut a ~ 2.5" circular hole in the bottom of the plenum at one point for unknown reasons
- When doing stereo work under the dash, I found a 3rd party horn was bottom mounted to the plenum and the factory horn wiring was cut
- When I found this, I removed the 3rd party horn, reconnected the factory horn wiring the factory horn worked (for a while)
- It's unclear why there was a hole cut in the plenum...the hole is too small to remove the factory horn (it's a twin horn setup connected by bracket).
Maybe the factory horn is indeed be flaky...which could explain why there was a 3rd party horn installed at some point (The 3rd party horn was awful btw, very quiet due to location with a terrible tone). What I can't explain is the power situation - I would expect to see 12v on the wires when I run the switch. Especially since I hear the PCM module clicking.
Feels like solving the power question is the first step. Any suggestions? Just want that nice factory horn to work again. :/
