    GT40 engine problems

New to Forum ., have a 1997 Nautique GT 40 EFI engine, 650 hours, last two seasons( New Jersey) motor starts missing under a load ( when pulling slalom skier) checked fuel pressure, ok, replaced every thing electronic, and fuel pumps and filter, temperator and oil senders working. everything new except distributer and computer, told pick up in distributer
(ignition igniter) may be bad and heats up under a load, Can this part be replaced separately or do I need to replace the entire distributer? Any other ideas.? Thanks, Ron

This may help. I had run problems resolved by replacing my distributor. The hall sensor pickup is replaceable but you need to remove the distributor gear.

It’s a pita to replace the sensor in that distributor. I just replaced my distributor and got it from NAPA. I have replaced the sensor years ago and that gear is freaking hard to get off and put on.

I just bought a replacement aftermarket distributor for my GT 40 EFI engine ( 1997) , to replace original distributor. How do I determine the cast iron gear from a steel gear, Whuch one is correct for my engine. Thanks.

            Cast iron is correct.

O’Reilly had the one I used
            Spectra Premium Distributor

            Part # FD14 Line: RPT

edit to add: I used the PCM “marine rated” distributor cap with this distributor.

At $95 for the whole distributor, I just said eff it and gave up trying to pull the gear. Simpler and faster. If you could get that thing off, yer a better man than me.
