1995 Sport Nautique Restoration - Transmission Question to the Forum.

Any 1995 Sport Nautique owners still out there. I pick up one to restore recently... Previous owner tried to make upgrades himself. Didn't maintain the trailer, nor was he a natural mechanic. Each time that we've taken it out, something has gone wrong... to date, I've been able to fix the issue, but this last one is a bit over my head. The previous owner replaced the old blower system with a new blower and exhaust hose. For some reason he ran the new hose near the drive shaft. Disaster... When the hose got caught up with shaft the wire that provides support to air exhaust line became wrapped around the shaft fouling the seal at the rear of the transmission connecting to the drive shaft. Does anyone have any experience replacing this seal... Is it straight forward? GT-40 motor with PCM 30-12-M01 1:23

Did the damage cause a leak? If not leave it alone. Your picture with the arrow points to the perma tex orange gasket sealer not the actual shaft seal. In the picture with the arrow it appears that there is water splashed all over or is that something else. It does not look like ATF.

First... Thank you for responding. the arrow in the 1st picture indicates where the transmission fluid leaked out from... There was a significant amount on the ground under the boat the next morning. Shaft seal was a poor choice of words. I have ordered a "SEAL, REAR FLANGE (40-A) - 1.23:1 Power Plus Transmission, PCM # R047191" from "NautiqueParts.com"... based upon the PCM 30-12-M01 information that I was able to find. I have the feeling you're about to tell me if I ordered the correct part or not. I am wanting to fix and restore the boat myself just to have a project, so any words of wisdom that you can share would be greatly appreciated.

...Actually, I determined the leak is not coming from that location but from the inner portion of the stainless steel plate bolted to the black transmission casing. If you look in the orange plastic paint tray you'll see the red ATF. The water droplets are from me spraying out the area to more easily identify problems going forward.

I do not have any direct experience with this trans.If you are handy removal is not hard. Specialty tools are frequently needed when pulling apart transmissions such as a press, C-clamp pliers. If you are willing to take it on I would guess you have tools or access to someones shop.

Well... I'm hoping that the seal is right behind the stainless Steel plate. I guess I should google that. Hopefully there will be no need for C-Clamp Pliers or a Press.
