Winterizing 2019 G23

After 8 yrs owning a Nautique, considering having winterizing done outside of a dealer. I have a well referred free lance mech who has many years working with other manuf. , but not Nautiques. I have a 2019 G23. Questions.. 1 - all ballast tanks are emptied, what is procedure that dealers take with the tanks? Anything? 2 - I have a heater. Is the system a closed loop system? Will running anti freeze through engine neutralize and protect any/all heating features, without any other special procedures needed? 3 - besides the aforementioned, and oil, oil filter, trans fluid, and fuel / water separator, is there anything else i should be aware of?

If your engine is fresh water cooled (uses antifreeze), the heater will not require winterization.

If your engine is raw water cooled (no antifreeze), you will need to drain the heater. To do that, disconnect both red lines on the passenger side of the engine, and introduce air pressure into one of the two lines (doesn't matter which) until all water is purged. Then reconnect the lines.

For the ballast tanks, I just run the pumps in drain mode until no water comes out. I have never had an issue with just doing that. If you want to be really careful, you could pour some RV antifreeze into the vent lines for each tank, and run the pump in drain mode until you see pink stuff coming out.

Other than that, just remove all of the blue drain plugs listed here on page 10 or 11 (depending on which type of cooling you have) and you'll be good to go.

I am not aware of the boat running anti freeze. Never heard of that. There is 2 types in this engine, why would that be? To point of the plugs, even when the engine is run (winterized) with the anti freeze, its then required to pull all plugs? That would have been something taht i feel would be argued, simple task but with antifreeze through whole engine, why? What about strainer basket, it would have antifreeze in it too, should it be pulled? Novice here...

Don't need to run any antifreeze through the cooling system. Remove all blue plugs, blow out heater, drain filter basket, drain ballast until empty. That's it besides any oil/filter changes etc... You could do this yourself very easily.

Bhazardc5 is exactly right. That's what I have been doing for the past few years, and I never have any issues. Takes all of about 30 minutes at the most to winterize.

Would this be the same process for a 2015 SANTE 210 with 450 PCM engine?

Yes. Plug #6 in the document is to drain the V-drive. You remove the rear bench seat, open the little hatch on the floor, remove the black plastic tray, and reach WAY down there and you'll feel the plug.

I have a 2016 230 and buddy has a 2018 G23. He came up with the following list which seems to apply to both our boats and inboards in general.


1. Oil and filter change (either suck it out with a pump or connect hose and run out the bottom of boat if the drain hole is accessible)
2. Drain water from engine and v-drive (ensure all plugs are found)
3. Blow out heater core lines
4. Drain ballast fully
5. Drain raw water filter
6. Pump antifreeze through heater core (we use a small pump for this)
7. Add fuel stabilizer
8. Suck antifreeze through engine until antifreeze comes out exhaust (we have plumbed in garden hose fitting with a valve)
9. Fog engine
10. Pump antifreeze into ballast tanks and run pumps in reverse
11. Unhook ballast pumps (I don’t do this)
12. Change fuel filters (if needed)
13. Swap raw impeller (if needed)
14. Remove batteries and put on trickle charger
15. Drink lots of beer

Takes better part of a day first time. Few hours thereafter.

Also doesn’t hurt to throw some antifreeze in bottom of boat and run bilge pump.

For 8, instead of antifreeze, after removing and draining at each of the blue plugs and draining strainer, run the boat while up out of water to blow out the exhaust and anything left in the raw water pump. You do this by pressing the transmission disengage button and bringing the rpms up for maybe 10 secs. Then bring it back down to idle and shut it off.
