    Another Oil Q

I just had my boat winterized ('07 Excalibur 330). I noticed they used Dexos Gen 2 5W-30. The PCM service bulletin I've seen states to still use 15W-40 for 5.7L engines when temps are above 50 F.

Now, this is an authorized Nautique dealer, and they claim that PCM had updated their dealer recommendation to use 5W-30 regardless of temp.

I can't find that recommendation anywhere. Am I crazy? Do I press the issue?

Yeah, i looked at it the bulletin, I see your point. Unless there is a newer bulletin.

But honestly, like many of us has said on so many threads. It is more important really that you have oil in the engine and change regularly, then what oil.

You're fine. If all those engines are ok on 5w30, I am guessing yours will be ok too. At least for a few thousand hours...

Yeah, you're probably right. I don't have a "new Nautique" budget, so I just want to make sure I take care of what I've worked hard to get.

I'm with Scott on this. I know everyone wants to use the best and correct oil they can in an investment like these boats but talk about a company setting a moving target. I try to use the best I can but at the end of the day it's still a 350 Chevy and an oil like 5-30 should work fine. I've been using the 15-40 full synthetic the last couple years and while synthetic isn't the "recommended oil" it hasn't blown up.
