Compressor, freshwater flush system, winterization.

2016 210. No heater. Have the freshwater flush system installed. Is there any reason why I could not/should not use a compressor, connected to the freshwater flush connector, to blow out the freshwater cooling system to winterize?

That will not get all of the water out.

On a '16, the winterization is so easy. Just pull the blue plugs.

I have the EX 343, which is the 5.7L, I believe. There are no blue plugs. There is one brass plug in v-drive, 2x brass on exhaust corners, 2x bottom of manifold and 2x engine knock sensors, and one engine circulation pump. I wish they were the simple blue plugs!!!

I'm curious, why wouldn't it get it all out?

Also, I have the high temp thread sealant. Do you use that on the knock sensors in addition to the plugs?

It honestly just isn't that bad to do to take a chance with IMO. Follow the drain sequence numbers in the manual and you're done in 20 - 30 minutes with little effort.

The problem I see with trying to blow it out is the volume of the area along with all the bends and low spots you're dealing with. I would be worried about the water out of the engine block let alone the exhaust manifolds which dump into large tubing going to the transom. Air is going to take the path of least resistance and once there's enough water out of the way I believe the air will bypass water trapped in crevasses and low spots. Also if this was a valid process I'm sure there would be systems being sold and dealers would be doing.

I do blow out the water lines on our cottage but all the runs are pretty much low volume with no or at least few areas that would allow water to settle into low or captured areas. Even at that I usually take as least 3 passes on each circuit. I'm always surprised as to how much water will come on even on that third run.

Blowing it out with air will never get all of the water out. As soon as a passageway has any opening for the air to go through, it will stop pushing water.

Do it right.
