Winter projects thread - what are yours?

Thought I would kick the annual 'what are you working on over the winter' thread.

Got my off season projects started by redoing the rear seat cover on my 206. Original one was was starting to have some cracking so it was time to swap on the new C&S Marine skin I had ordered in the spring. This is my 5th or 6th skin I have installed now....getting semi-decent at it.

Nice. How long did it take you to replace the skin on the rear seat?

Not sure really...worked on it on and off over a few days. This one took a bit longer as it's the first skin I've done that has a tuck...had to figure that out. Maybe four or five hours? But then I'm not very fast..... quality vs speed.

Nice work. Wish I had a heated shop I could work in over the winter.

Just had the boat winterized last week, even though technically it's still warm enough to ride most of the winter here it's just not as fun for us. My only plan is to give the boat a full detail inside and out, along with fresh waxing.

Mine started a month ago and the most involved one is nearly done! Had a new tower built by New Dimensions after mine cracked twice. It headed to powder coat this week so hope to pick it up next week.

I didn't want to run the risk of this happening again so I had them double the mounting plate thickness and went with SCH80 pipe instead of SCH40. Also added the smaller triangulation tubing like was done in 2006 hoping to stiffen the structure a bit more.

So New Dimension did a complete custom for you with thicker wall tubing and added the reinforcements? Are they also doing the powder coating?

Correct… it's a complete custom build, but based on the original/their recreation design. They send it off to be coated.

Their original idea for a stronger tower was to do larger diameter tubing but it wouldn't have worked well at the rear mounts, so thicker wall tubing and I asked for thicker mount plates and the reinforcement bars. They've been really easy to work with and once they received the material the work was fast… just took a month to get materials.

My last boat had their tower and it seemed very well made and excellent powder coating, better than the fct in my opinion. I didn’t realize they did the custom kind of work such as this. I bet you’ll be 110% satisfied after getting to use it.

Complete set of C and S skins are ordered. Probably a couple months out still.

Mine is tucked away and inaccessible. My only planned mod for spring is to upgrade to PP Stargazer as my original PP display is starting to fail sporadically.

That's going to be a big job to put all those on! But man the result will be amazing. You plan to do the install yourself or hire that out?

"Shop" provides too much credit. More like a tool and gear room with a little bit of workspace. But yeah...still nice vs nothing!

CS recommend a shop do the work. So I'll strip them all out and take them to a local shop. As much as I could make it work, I really want the result to look professional!

biacs yeah...for a job of that size, totally get it. How many skins are in your boat...? A lot I would think. My 206 has...um...9 bow skins....4 I think for the driver and passenger seats...could actually be a couple more. 1 each for the port and starboard combing boards. 2 for the rear seat. 1 motorbox skin. And 2 for the trunk wings. That's what.....20 in total? Hard to imagine recovering that many seats...just pulling the staples alone would be painful!

My goal is to try to do a couple each off season to just keep the boat looking fresh.
