Installing ski pylon, how bad could this idea be?

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are about installing a pop-up pylon like they have in all the newer style SAN's?

The attached photo is what I'm looking to do on a 97 SSN, the orignal pylon is in the way ALL the time, so it's getting removed. Just want to see how possible this idea would be.

Also, does anyone have any idea as to the cost of the pylon? As well, does anyone know how much fiberglass/reforcing I will need to do in order to anchor the new pylon into the back?

I assume that any CC dealer should be able to find/order the part for me, but could I possibly buy the part off of a totaled nautique? Would the pylon from a 00-05 fit on a 97?

The bracing is pretty hardcore, but I'm sure it could be done. That pylon is not a pop-up though. It is permanently mounted.

You might already have the bracing down ther, as it is mostly the engine mounting rails etc..


Is your current mount up by the driver?

Yup, the original pylon is dead smack in the middle of the boat. I've stubbed a toe 1 too many times, so it's coming out. Just would like to have the pylon in back to tie the surf line off.

You can always pull from the tower for surfers assuming you have a tower. Does your boat not have a tow attachment on the transom (if you don't have a tower)?
