Adding 2nd battery to 2000 SAN - Where should I put it AND what should I know?

Fellow SAN owners.... I am adding a 2nd battery to my 2000 SAN. I purchased a Blue Water Add-A-Battery kit and the installation seems straight forward.

    Questions:
    1. Where are folks putting the second battery (please send pics of your installations).
    2. Any tricks on the wiring in terms of separating the starting circuit(s) from the accessory circuits?
    3. Other gotchas and learnings?

    Thanks!

I assume your existing battery is in the drivers side rear hatch next to engine? That's the factory location of my 2001 anyways. I put my second battery under the passenger dash when I redid the stereo system. It's clean and leaves plenty of room for storage still.

Rusty... Are you able to fit the seat back into the boat without obstruction? You install looks super tight. Very nice

I like Rusty's as well. I am handling this project in the spring. I was thinking of moving both batts somewhere, haven't decided yet.

yes, but it is tight. i could not use a full size battery box. That's why i just have those small trays.

Rusty Barras Forgive the litany of questions but just trying to ensure I learn from others before jumping in deep. When you installed the second battery did you shift any of the OEM electrical over to the second battery or did you purely leverage the second battery for stereo, pumps, etc.? Appreciate any details you can share. Thanks! -Jason

I have my docking lights, stereo, and ballast pumps all on the second battery with it's own circuit breaker panel.

Also if it helps, this is how i wired the batteries.

I'm a nerd about this stuff. I even fused my welding cables coming off the batteries. My number is 5044530292 if you want to call or text about any of it. I'm sure i have more photos too.

Rusty Barras Sir! I finally got around to getting an Add-A-Battery kit installed. I had an installer do the work and now we are running into issues that I hope you may have already encountered and solved for. The installer tested everything and fired up the boat and said all was good. I then went for our first journey and the boat started but then immediately died. I also am not hearing the fuel pumps cycle add when you first key the ignition.

On the boat's original single battery install you have a main line (+) line coming direct from the starter and two smaller guage wires that are fused. One is for the dash power and the other appears to be for the electric hatch motor. Did you route all three of these to a single post on the Add-A-Battery switch?

Any thoughts or hunches.... the installer is coming back to fix the issue but I just want to have some homework done before he shows up.

I have them both on the load post, but I used this block to fuse them and make the connections cleaner

Rusty Barras What are the two RED 16 guage wires going to the SI-Series module for? They appear to be going to the main terminals of that Charging Relay switch. Not referring to the ground or remote LED wires.

Again, cannot thank you enough on the guidance.

Any thoughts on why boat won't stay running?

Sorry just seeing this. Those are for my 2 volt gauges on the dash. I can see each battery.

I've had trouble with my kill switch not staying engaged. Try that. Test for fuel pressure and spark.

can the GND terminal on the ACR be grounded to the motor, or should it only be to the battery? i just relocated my batteries up front in my boat and want to leave the ACR and Perko battery switch in the back.

I have everything grounded to the block
