So…we replaced the long motor before the service and there was a alternative sump plug that’s was not plugged. Filled that in with a blank and now no issues.

I hope the dealer refunded your money at a minimum from “servicing” your boat.

You do realize that advisory is for GM based engines that have roller camshafts not 20+ year old engines never tested on those oils right? Those Gen 2 oils were developed to protect the catalytics from contamination.

I read it differently since they specifically call out the Ford GT40. This is a change from the SAE 40 VR1 I used in my GT40. Agree about Dexos is for GM based engines but that isn’t the whole bulletin.

***All model engines not found above, i.e. Ford GT40, 5.7L and 8.1L. These engines should continue to be serviced with the weight and formula oil found below.

            Recommended A.P.I. Classification & Viscosity
            Above 50 ̊F
            SAE 15W-40 “GF-4/SM”

The bulletin does say "continue" which means no change- so technically the bulletin about Dexos does not apply to other engines only the ones with cats. It's an EPA thing.

Looked through my records and over all my GT40 oil changes (Valvoline VR1 40W), I've averaged ~4.25 quarts over 7 changes. The fluxuation is definitely from a variety of factors when draining (temperature of oil, level ground, patience to let ALL the oil drain out of the line, etc) but I've never put more than 4.5 qts.
