Swim Grid Modification

Hello Everyone...I have a question has anyone ever modified their swim grid(platform) teak or fibreglass before? We finally got our dream boat a 206 (needed the seating for extended family) that with the swim grid is 4 inches to long for our lake property association dock rules---I have tried EVERYTHING to get the rules modified but won't happen so I need to either trim off a few inches off the platform or hinge it up when it is parked......Has anyone done or know of if these option are a possibility?? I have the fibreglass platform on the boat as seen below

Is the teak platform smaller? Unless it is just the angle of the pic my 04 196 has a teak platform, and it looks shorter than that. Not sure if it would be four inches though. Mine is at the lake house otherwise I would take a quick measurement for comparison.

Just take it off. It's on brackets with lock pins on either side. It takes two people but it's quick. I used to have to do this when I parked mine in the garage in order to get the garage door closed.

I wonder if the teak platform is smaller this fibreglass one is 24 inches ....I can't take it off every time I dock that would be extremely difficult

Is someone actually going to measure it? I would just leave it be until it becomes a problem.

You could have one custom made for your boat any size you need if it came down to it.

Wow, that's ridiculous. I'm glad I don't have to deal with that BS.

Could you just pull it off, have them measure it, and then put it back on after your "inspection"?

I have a 2004 206 with a factory teak platform..that's conveniently off the boat for refinishing

Measured at the middle of the platform (fore-aft) from the transom to the rear edge of the platform it's 23 inches deep.



See that last half moon shaped board....? The board adds 5"...remove that and you're good to go. I bet if you were clever, you could even engineer a way to slide out/slide in and pin that last section. Slide out at the dock....put back in for use.

hmm that is a thought...I like the possible custom order but I Dont like the cad/US exchange rate high now I also would not be opposed to a teak deck where I could get the last few inches off. Thanks for the help guys

The new wood platform seems to be the answer albeit an expensive one. You could try to get this done locally but I've found (we have a cottage outside Windsor on Lake Erie that we haven't seen in 2 years) that after all the taxes you'll pay on most custom items like this, it'll still be cheaper even with the exchange rate coming from the states. Beats the heck out of cutting up a fiberglass platform then trying to patch in or mold a new profile.

Either option is going to be expensive but it's better than not being able to use the boat.

If you're at all handy, something like what SilentSeven posted shouldn't be too bad to build, especially if you can get someone to post a few pics of the underside and some measurements. You could basically copy the design but exclude two boards to make it smaller. Heck, if I were closer to you, I'd help you out.

Build it and if you don't have the skills find a carpenter, cabinet maker, trim installer. They can whip out a platform to fit your brackets in less than a day. Another option is post a wanted to buy or trade. I bet someone would like your fiberglass over their teak. If you want to spend the money search for someone who can make it from fiberglass.
