    2000 SAN speaker covers

On our nice SAN from 2000 the speaker covers clothing (I don't know the right word for this) is coming apart. Anyone ever replaced this by new? How to get some new clothing? It looks like a lot of work (taking the complete side cushion off). Any help or ideas are greatly appriciated!

I had the same problem - I simply moved the speakers to external and got some alpine covers - looks and sounds better.

I was thinking about that also, but like to know how easy it is to keep it original... Can you take a photo of your setup now? And you also using new speakers now as I read? Was it easy to remove the old Clarions speakers (or did you had to take of the complete side cushion)?

I replaced the clarion's with FoCals in my 2000 SAN. Or I should say the stereo dude at my dealer did it - and he had to take off the panels/cushions to do the job properly. I too like the look of the stock covers and removing the side cushions was the only way to keep the factory look and get the new speakers in right.

It was really easy to remove the old speakers (unscrew and they drop out of the cans); my clarions were 100w max and the Alpine sps17c2 speakers ($90.00/pair) seemed like an easy upgrade taking the max watt to 250 made a huge difference in sound. I also added 4 of them to the tower, added a 300w sub under the drivers side, and an orion 7005 700w 5 ch amp. I didn't replace any of the original speaker wires - didn't want to deal with that... The whole system sounds excellent. I also like keeping things original on my boat and originally wanted to keep the speakers behind the cloth but the sound wasn't "wowing me"; I asked a speaker pro and he rec'd that I make them external (i could really careless about how cool they look external). However, there was a big sound difference, which i couldn't really believe until I made them external. I did not have to cut any cushions I just matched the external speaker covers to the cans.
