2009 230 raw water pump not working

Can't figure out why raw water pump not sucking in lake water? Changed impeller. It has no issue when I use my in-line flush kit with garden hose that is just down from the intake filter. I can run it at 2500 rpm with the garden hose hooked up to the flush kit. But won't suck water from the lake. Removed in-line flush kit, still no suction. Nothing blocking the hose. I can flush the intake hose from inside the boat and water free flows out the bottom.
Any suggestions?

Most likely an air leak somewhere. Check all of the hose connections, and the strainer O-ring.

I experienced climbing temps while at idle, suggestive of a smaller air leak.
2 culprits were the strainer o-ring, as well as a cracked pvc elbow (the one coming out of the strainer).

you can also check the tightness of hose clamps at each end of the runs between the raw water pump and the thru hull intake, as well as the integrity of the hoses thenselves (are any cracked/cracking?)

The hoses prior to the strainer are a little tougher looking from the hull intake, but I have been trying to eliminate the air leaks by trial and error and not replacing the hoses. The strainer and flush kit look to be in really good shape and so do the orings.
Since I am not an expert, would the issue with an air leak only be prior to the water pump? Could there be anything keeping it from sucking in water after the water pump? I was trying to eliminate the issues myself but may have to take it to the dealer. I spoke with the dealer mechanic and it seems odd to him based on what I have tried.

I know this is highly unlikely but are you sure the thru-hull valve is open? A small air leak will not stop water being pulled into the hoses. It can decrease the volume and therefore cause overheating. But if you have no water draw, I suspect you have a blockage.

If you put water in the strainer with the motor off, does it leak out the bottom if the boat via the thru-hull as it should?

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I took the strainer off and put the garden hose right to the intake hose that goes through the ball valve and out the hull. I can run the garden hose at full strength and it comes out the bottom of the boat fast enough that it doesn't even fill the intake hose.

I would suspect an air leak or flush kit backflow preventer. Point to keep in the back of your head while searching is that the garden hose is under pressure so it will hide an air leak. Try a fake a lake so you are putting water in from the start of the system and with the engine off and look for water.

The dealer says I am missing the shim/gasket seal. Trying to figure out how. Unless it fell off somehow and now not in the boat. Say they can't get the part and need a new pump?
I took a picture of someone else's since I don't have a picture of mine. So the shim/metal gasket can't be bought as a part?? I am hoping I can tell them I will buy the seal myself if I can figure out where to get one. Not sure the brand of water pump. Any suggestions?

If this is a PCM impeller. Is the sherwood pumps the same?
Thanks for the info. Basically the Nautique dealer should be able to find the part correct? Not force me to buy a new pump if that piece is missing/fell off

PCM is the marinizer, they basically do the engineering and pull all the parts together to created the marinized package. Sherwood is the pump manufacture, they make pumps along with tons of other marine products for a large group of marinizers and manufactures.

Most dealers are going to stock maintenance items, the part you need is a component of the assembly. Past the dealer a place like Discount Inboard Marine would be the next place to look. I did and it doesn't look like they have it either, this should tell you something. What this tells me is that this is a non wear item and something that shouldn't need to be replaced over the life of the pump. The only way a dealer would have something like this is if they had an old pump around that they could scavenge for the part. If the dealer is the one that lost the part then yes they should replace either the part or the pump if that is what's required to put the boat back to how it was when you had them do the work. If you lost the part when you changed the impeller then it's all you.

If I were trying to run this issue down I would get a bunch of pictures of MY pump with focus on any part numbers stamped on the pump. I would then contact one or both of the companies that Jeff referenced and see if they can match your pump, positively identify the part you need and get that one shipped to you. Cut corners anywhere along the way here in this process and expect difficulties. Sherwood has made a ton of different pumps over the years and getting the wrong part can happen quite easily.
