    Nautique 200 shaft seal

The shaft seal is leaking and not sure if the hole thing needs to be replaced or new packing put in (if it has packing). It has about an 1/8" play. Is it easy to replace or best to take it to a dealer. Can it be used for a few hours as is because it's supposed to pull a tournament this weekend.
    Thanks

Yours is a “dripless” shaft seal. Obviously, it’s neither dripless nor sealing at the moment. If you are handy with a wrench, you can change out the now-failed dripless seal. If you’re unsure, then the dealer option is in play. It won’t be cheap. The seal is $100 - $150 retail. Labor could be a couple of hours.

I haven't done one of these on a Nautique but on a older Pro Star it's not a horrible job. Most depends on access and getting the coupler off. Your going to basically need to split the coupler from the trans, take the coupler off the end of the shaft and then remove/replace the dripless seal. The center section of the floor on the Pro Star I worked on was removeable so we had excellent access to the shaft and the seal. The trick is getting the coupler off the shaft. We had the coupler tool and basically did the job in about 2 hours. A lot depends on how easy everything comes apart. Here's a couple videos on the dripless shaft coupler and one of pulling the coupler apart.....

You can get everything you need from Discount Inboard Marine and they'll even provide phone support for you if you need it. Call them, tell them what you're going to do and they'll set you up with everything you need.....

I realize that I’m spending your money, but if you’re going to pull the coupler off, I suggest replacing the driveshaft with the dual taper driveshaft. A.R.E. Makes them as well as General Propeller in Florida. The dual taper driveshaft is really the only way to go. It makes any driveshaft work much easier. I will swap the driveshaft in my Ski Nautique to a dual taper this year and install the OJ dripless system.
