Somebody here may know, but I bet if you went over to www.correctcraftfan.com
- you'd get a detailed answer....

Is it the ProTech system? Do the plug wires run to the rear of the motor into 4 black boxes? Or do the wires run to the front of the engine to a more traditional distributor?

When you ask: "reestablish the correct firing order" what are you trying to accomplish? Was the "trigger" removed from the block? Or, are you simply trying to set the ignition timing on the ProTec system? The ProTec "trigger" is that hockey puck-looking thing at the front of the engine.
When the ProTec system in my 1994 Ski Nautique died, I replaced it with a marine HEI distributor. I was very pleased with the results. I opted for the D.U.I. at https://performancedistributors.com/...-distributors/

7,000 rpm version. Standard rotation. I doubt you have a reverse rotation engine as most PCM engines of that vintage were standard rotation with the PCM 1.23:1 transmission.
As you just rebuilt the engine, put a nice new distributor on it. The ProTec system is old and parts are no longer available. You will be very happy with the DUI unit.

Just got the private message. That’s amazing, really appreciate the help. So let me get the motor back and order the DUI unit. Looks like about 3 week delivery period but that’s ok because the motor will take that long. I’ll follow up when everything has arrived.
