'04 SANTE Impeller

I'm finally replacing the impeller on my own. A quick question on the outer ring / washer that snugs up against the impeller. Does that seat itself on the notch of the housing once I twist it a couple of times or do I need to make sure it is on the notch when I'm putting the housing back on?
