    Belt Tensioning Tricks?

I have a 2003 SAN with the 330 Excalibur with the separate alternator belt and water pump belt. The alternator belt finally gave out and I have both new belts in hand. There is no tensioning pully and, from what I can tell, these rely on traditional leveraging to tension of the cable combined with locking down the bolt on the alternator / pump. I have read about the 1/2" deflection check for the alternator belt (e.g., in the limited manual repair description), but is there any other advice on tensioning these??? Get a board to leverage and go at it??? The alternator belt is "behind" the pump belt, so I assume the only way to replace the alternator belt is to remove the pump belt, install the alternator belt, and then replace the pump belt. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

You more or less have it. It's not too difficult to get it right. Lightly snug up the bolt, tension it up with a bar and give the belt a push with your free hand to check the deflection before tightening it, and then again after you snug them up.
