Foam Blocks Surrounding Fuel Tank

We recently bought a 2005 SV211. There are two upholstery type foam blocks stuffed between the hull and the fuel tank on both sides, and one larger one sandwiched between the tank and the removable center deck. Can someone tell me what purpose they serve? They don’t seem to serve any structural support. I suspect they’re for some kind of vibration dampening or something like that. Some other Nautiques I’ve looked at don’t have them. Mine are soaked with 17 years of mildew and goo. I just as soon leave them out. Thanks all!

I have never seen those in any of my boats. Not sure that those are original.
