1996 Super Sport Nautique GT40 Engine starts slow, any ideas?

First off, thanks to anyone who can help me with this!!! Have had my Nautique for a couple years and have so loved it, but have always had this issue, cranks very slow--but have always had it start. Seems to start better right after it's been going and only stopped for a moment, seems to be worst after 3 or 4 minutes (normal skier switch). Took it to Nautique dealer here in TN they said there was no problem and charged me...so just wondering if anyone has any ideas. I don't know how to describe this best, but hope this helps without real sound...

changed spark plugs, changed relay, have thought of changing battery cable, batteries are in good condition

I just had those same symptoms on the 2014 230 that I am selling. I didn't want the starter to fail on the new owner, so I replaced it. Starts nice and fast now. No more slow starts.

You might consider replacing the starter, or even having the existing one rebuilt. Either one will likely fix your issue. If you don't do anything, it will probably keep getting worse and eventually fail at the worst time.

Cheap check before purchasing a new starter would be to confirm all 4 key cable connections are corrosion free and tight. Verify the pos/neg on both the battery and engine side. Any corrosion would limit the amps and reduce the rate the starter turns over. In the end, a new starter may indeed by needed but I'd check this first.

Thanks so much Jeff and Steven! I've checked for corrosion, not seeing any, but will pull all 4 off and wire brush just to make sure. Regarding starter, will pick up a new one and hope that will take care of the problem

Make SURE you get a marine starter. I do not want to read about how your boat exploded because you used non-marine electronic parts.
