2006 196 PCM 330 Analog Speedo Faulty

Hello,

I have a recent issue with the analog speedo gauge for my 2006 196. The speedo has always worked. We performed quite a bit of maintenance on the boat this year before launch. It does not register speed until I am going about 30 or faster, then it seems to be accurate. When slowing down it would decay all the way to 0 below 25. It also bounced around a bit.

Anyone have a solution?

Does this boat have pitot tubes or does the analog speedometer run off of the paddle wheel?

It does not have pitot tubes. I believe a wheel under the middle of the boat. Haven't gone under it to check yet.

OK. I assume it has Perfect Pass? Is the speed readout on the Perfect Pass working?

You are correct, PP was working.

Then is seems like it must be the gauge (or the Gateway, if this boat has one). Is this the only gauge being weird? When I had an issue on my '07, both the analog speedo and the PP were were going screwy, so I new the paddlewheel was the culprit.

By analog gauge, do you just mean the one that looks like this?



If so, those are not analog, but are actually digital gauges that provide an analog display. If these are the gauges you have, you likely have a failing gateway box.





If your gauges are TRULY analog and look like this (meaning your boat is a Signature Edition instead of a Limited or Team), then you may have a failing pitot tube or paddlewheel, or faulty wiring, or simply a filing gauge.
