Impeller failure 2005 SANTE 210 zr6

Hey guys took the boat out first time this season after running it up on land on the garden hose. Forgot to replace the hose for the raw water pump and burnt out my impeller / overheat ( engine hot code ) the temp gauge was up to the top before I realized what was going on. I took the impeller out and cleaned out the hoses and pump as best I could, also noticed a small nick in the pump housing that must have always been there? See in pics. Is there anything I should be worried about? I will replace the impeller / oil, the oil filter is new should I just replace it when doing the oil or leave it? I also saw to check at the thermostat for pieces of the impeller getting stuck there so I will check that as well. Do you think pump housing needs to be replaced? I would say it seems to have been running fine like that since Ive had the boat the last 4 years. Moral of the story always use your checklist! Check for cooling water flow when first running and always keep an eye on gauges. Thanks!

Can't tell too well from the pictures, but that pump housing looks like it would tear up a new impeller pretty quickly. I'd probably replace it. From the looks of the impeller, that thing got HOT!

That pump / impeller housing is “toast”. Replace it.

The pump housing really looks worse then it is, it's been like this since I've had the boat I replace my impeller every season and have never had any problems. The markings can barely be felt by a fingernail

That piece is about $900 Canadian believe it or not so I will try my best to get by as is and keep a spare impeller on board just in case

It’s your boat…

Cooling water is the life blood of your engine (next to engine oil). A less-than-perfect impeller housing will definitely have an impact on the proper function and longevity of the impeller vanes. I wouldn’t take that risk in my boat. I realize I’m spending your money, but think of the impeller housing as insurance against a serious overheat situation.

Make sure to carry a spare impeller and tools to change it out on the lake if you don’t replace it.

If it has been that way since you got the boat and it hasn't caused you problems, I wouldn't be too quick to replace it. The edges of the inlet / outlet holes are what causes the most wear on my impellers, but that is probably from too much putzing around the lake versus higher RPM use. I go 1 to 2 years on an impeller, but I always look it over when I do my winterization. I remove it from the housing so it doesn't stay curled all winter and reinstall it, or a new one in the spring, depending on how it looks.

Run the new impeller for awhile and take a look to see whether it is causing harm. My guess is that you will see wear from the inlets / outlets before you will from that. And, like you said...keep an eye on your gauges and carry a spare.
