Good morning everyone.
I'm having a perplexing issue with my 1999 Super Sport, 5.7 l Apex PCM w/435 hours.
The issue is I am having is a stumble/power loss situation after about 20 minutes on the water running above 2,800ish RPM & 20ish mph. The check engine light does Not come on. Once below the 2800ish RPM range, it runs properly. This last happened over the 4th weekend and we could surf, however anything over surf speed resulted in the stumble and hesitation.
This started a month ago and I replaced the fuel filter, checked/cleaned the fuel pickup, replaced the cap and rotor, plugs are clean & wires are all in good shape only being two years old. All fluids are at proper level, no overheating and oil pressure is normal. The fuel is fresh & high grade non-ethanol.
I took it into a mechanic, he said I had some leaks around the water pump hoses and they were spraying onto the alternator causing a limp mode. He replaced the alternator and subsequent hoses, however after 30 minutes back on the water the issue returned.
I have searched around if anyone here has had a similar issue and although I have found some similarities, they tend to be for the GT-40 and not quite the same. I have read that you can pull the temperature sensor and/or oil sensor wires to see if that makes a difference, however I have yet to return to the lake to give it a go. I am calling it a stumble, but it could be a miss or bad fuel injector, however the check engine light never activates when it happens. I am at a loss.
Thanks in advance.
