1997 Ski Nautique throttle issue...

Hoping someone can help.... I have a '97 with PCM Apex motor and Perfect Pass. Boat was running fine but now when I open up throttle to pull out a skier or when it gets above about 1800 rpm and I give it more throttle, it bogs down/won't respond and I hear a loud, high pitched swishing sound. Originally I thought it was something in my throttle linkage or that I need to tighten the knob on the PP servo (this fixed it last time I had it happen), but those seem to be fine. Throttle cable is brand new.

Anybody have any thoughts? I'm pretty rural in WA, only here for another week, no way I'm getting in at a dealer right now.

I have no experience with the Apex engine, but is the Check Engine light on? Could this possibly be a SLOW system issue?

No CEL. Temps are fine, oil pressure looks fine.

I'd see if there is a way to disconnect the PP and/or PP servo from the equation to rule it out. Does the CEL come on before engine start? To rule out a blown CEL bulb.
