Looking to buy ‘08 Super Air

I’m looking at 08’ Super Air 220 with 640 hrs. Visually, the boat looks good . I’ve never owned a “nautique” so what are some things that I should look for and listen for when I take it out?

Traditionally, nautique engineers are excellent boat builders. However, they are not excellent plumbers and electricians. So focus on all electrical options. Look at the ballasts and make sure they all fill and drain - and that the gauges work).
Look at the seat and locker hinges - do the gas shocks stay up? Stereo and stereo remotes. Do those displays and buttons work?
    Perfect pass display commonly fails.

This is a $1K fix as you must upgrade to PP StarGazer.

An 08 220 should have zero off instead of perfect pass. .

You’ll to look at the zero off antenna , see if it’s been upgraded. If it’s been upgraded it’ll be mor like a trapezoid than a circle. Not a big deal if it hasn’t but the upgrade in antenna gets you bit better performance from the unit.

all in all not really much extra , make sure all gauges and ballast displays work properly. 08 is a great year. Next to zero digital gremlins , strong power plant , and pretty simple to wrench on. Steering would be a point of focus , Shouldn’t have to muscle it too much , should be smooth. But the boat is around the age of a “possible “ steering cable replacement if it hasn’t been done yet.

Good point on the Z/O vs. PP.

I recently bought an '06 220 TE after having a Mastercraft and I was worried I bought wrong boat shortly after buying it. The wakeboard wake is finicky, the boat had trouble planing, the stock ballasts kinda sucked and i couldnt produce a decent surf wave... But, after I made a few adjustments, I am very glad I sold my Mastercraft and bought this 220. The 220 Hull is deep for its era and it produces a killer surf wave if you make some changes and about 2 hours worth of work. The changes I made are pulling the stock rear tanks, putting in 1100 lbs in each side, piggybacking the belly tank and putting a 450 lb nose ballast under the front seats, changing the prop and getting a Wakesurf Edge shaper by Liquid Force. (Ive tried multiple other shapers). I could not be happier with this boat. Its a fantastically built boat and it produces a killer wave. If you ever want to get more specific on setups or have questions about it, feel free to reach out via DM. Im the type of guy that when I buy something, I take a very, very deep dive on just about everything, so Ive learned a few things about them. Enjoy.
