Cause for 2007 SV211 TE porpoising at >30mph

I'm dealing with an irritating issue that I'm hoping you guys can help me with. No matter what setting my hydrogate is on, where my weight is distributed in the boat, or if my perfect pass is on/off, my boat will porpoise at speeds above 30mph. Has anyone else dealt with this issue and if so what did you do to fix it?

What are you running for a prop? Mine will porpoise a bit at higher speeds with the Hydrogate in wakeboard positions, but if I have the lever all the way forward, it is not an issue.

Stock prop as far as I know but I'm not entirely sure. My top end is about 41-42 if that tells you anything.

Porpoising can almost always be eliminated by adding weight to the bow (or removing weight from the stern). Even on my brand new Paragon, I run about 150 pounds of lead in the bow to eliminate a slight porpoising issue when the bow is empty in that boat. With the lead there, the issue is gone completely.

Is it possible your Hydrogate linkage is broken? When you move the Hydrogate lever at the helm is there some resistance or is it loose? I would confirm the gate is actually moving at the stern. If that is still functioning - I would agree with MNRyan - check your prop, when I purchased my 07 SV211 it came with and Acme 1235 (top speed was barely 39mph and the roostertail was nasty at skiing speeds - didn't stay at that speed long and I can't remember if it was porpoising) swapped that out for a Acme 537 and had a good blend to have low end wake surfing capabilities and no rootertail to deal with at 34mph.

Jeff makes a good point too, add some weight to the bow - does this happen only when you are solo?

Are you >30 with ballast full? Most of the time I see porpoise issues it's because there's not enough weight in the bow compared to the stern, but even when weight is "even" higher speeds tend to cause it. Like others have said more weight in the bow usually counteracts the porpoise effects.

nhbouch, you had a 14.5" prop on it? I put a 1939 on mine last year (14" x 15.5")--I don't know that I would want to go bigger than 14" for clearance. I've been happy with the 1939, though, and an all-around prop (we ski, surf, and board).

MN Ryan - yes the previous owner had that on when I bought it - i ran it for about a week - hated it because we ski 50% of the time we're out - and the rooster tail prop wash was terrible. Great hole shot and low end thought

But to answer your question - yes there was clearance and i'm not sure how long the previous owner ran that prop - I think there a thing called prop burn on the hull (don't know a ton about that but has to do with the clearance)

I had an OJ SkiPro 448-MF (13.7 x 17) when I bought mine. I like the 1939 much better.

jhoffy22 I think there are some good ideas here. Definitely confirm that your Hydrogate is functioning as that plays a role with my 211. If it is and you're still having issues, I would play around with some weight in the bow. If I recall, you have weight plumbed up there, so it should be easy enough to play around with. Or stick a 5 gallon bucket of water, cinder block, etc up there and see if it improves. If so, 50-lb lead shot bags fit nicely under those bow seats. I'm guessin 1 of them would make a difference.

Your prop could also factor in, but that can get expensive and frustrating, and if your current prop is in good shape and you're relatively happy with it, it's probably not worth messing with unless you can't solve the issue otherwise.
