    G21 Transmission Clunking

Hello, I have a 2019 G21 and am curious about the clunk it makes when I shift into reverse. It doesn’t sound great. Forward is silent. Is this normal? Drive shaft nut at v-drive seems tight with no play in the shaft when shifting that I can see. Video below.

I'm having that same experience, thought perhaps it was normal. It is definitely noticeable. I would love to hear some feedback here.
Thanks for the kickstart g21Ryan. Ours sounds more of a lower tone thud, but I haven't listened with the hatch open, although similar.

I found a video on YouTube last night of a g series and it makes the identical sound. Yes with the hatch closed it’s more of a thud but there is that slight metallic sound and it appears this is 100% normal.

Yeah there's a metal to metal contact when something spins back in the other direction, like a collar (I think my DS has one). IF that was damped with a urethane gasket you wouldn't hear it. Metal on metal doesn't sound good to the human ear.

Does it make the same clunk if you put it in neutral and then back into reverse a 2nd time w/o going into forward in between?

The Nautique direct drives with the 80A transmission make a similar noise going into reverse but only the first time. It's caused by transmission main shaft end play. They tend to do this until they get really broken in, then it quiets down. But it doesn't sound like the same cause if makes the noise going into reverse twice in a row. You need to shift into forward to have the shaft shift back to the original position.
