I have been using a topsider oil extractor to drain the oil from my precious and current G. The instructions say to feed the quick drain tube trough the plug to drain. The drain tube in my prior and cuttent G wont reach that far. What am I missing?

You're not missing anything. The hoses are way too short.
Best thing to do is use your topsider, but feed the line into the drain hose instead of down the dipstick tube. That's what I do and it works fine.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. You really want to get the right fittings so you can attach a vacuum extractor to the supplied drain hose on the engine. All the worse stuff from the old oil is settled in the bottom of the engine pan. You get that out if you attach the extractor to the fitting on the end of the oil drain hose. You don't get that out using the tube that comes with the extractor.

No, that isn't exactly how it works. It's a bit less messy to use fittings that screw onto the old drain tube but simply inserting the plastic tube into the drain tube is fine. It'll get as much oil out either way. The oil drain tube is connected to the lowest point in the oil pan. Everything will drain to that.

Just use greggmck 's oil change write-up in the maintenance sticky section. I just did it again last night, took all of 30 minutes. I installed a male high-pressure quick-connect fitting to the engine drain hose, and the female end to the extractor hose. I don't pull the rear seat out, I just put down some plastic with old rags / towels on top. Easy-peasy.

That's slick.
I'm so embarassed to admit this, but earlier this summer, I could not find my oil drain line. I figured it had fallen under the engine and planned on locating it next time I had the divider panels out. Well, I pulled the panels out this weekend to tackle another project. I found what I assumed to be the oil drain line, so I followed it, and there it was, clipped in a nice location on top of the motor. I just never thought to pull the plastic engine cover off to look for it. Arrrgh! What a dummy.
