    Ballast

I was stowing my surfboards after trailering the boat and saw the port and starboard bags on my 2019 230 had not emptied fully. First time that has happened to me after hitting “back to dock” at the end of the day. New ballast impellers this year. I have boated a few hundred hours in it and haven’t had this happen.

First question: can you empty the last bit of ballast on land or will that cook your impeller?
second question: just return to my normal routine and see if this happens again, or do I need to start cycling extra emptying of the ballast from here on out?

    Thanks

i would check them before you leave the lake. Most trailers are designed right at their weight limit and depending on how much was still left in the tanks, that could add substantial weight.

What would you suggest is the best way to do that to ensure the bags are empty? In my old boat the tanks emptied above the waterline and had plugs in the transom that could be removed once the boat was on the trailer to ensure the tanks were completely empty. In my new-to-me 2018 GS20 it seems that I can only rely on the Linc display to check if the bags are empty.

You can check to make sure they are drained on the trailer by hitting the drain buttons on link, the pumps make a very distinctive sound when they are empty, you will hear them for sure and as long as you turn them off when no more water is coming out the bottom of boat or you hear the pumps you’ll be fine and it will not toast the impellers.

This happens pretty often in my xstar, the rear bags sit on top of the tanks and often dont fully drain, if I need them all the way empty I just lift the corner of the bag opposite the drain tube until they are empty and then hit the empty button when on land. Water will usually pump out for like 10 seconds and then its empty and I shut off the pumps.

As ScooterMcgavin said the pumps make a really distinct noise when they are empty and running dry so you will know to shut them off. You wont fry anything as long as you aren't running them dry for extended periods. Most pumps have run dry proection and will shut off if they get too hot.
