I need to replace the Fireboy extinguisher on my Nautique 226, 06, and Fireboy have asked what the volume is of the engine compartment, or what size Fireboy extinguisher was originally fitted - anyone know?
That was a rare option, especially that long ago, so finding someone that has one will be hard.
I do order that option on my new boats now, but that doesn't help with your question.
I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.

Thanks Jeff - its not actually a precision question, the extinguishers are sized by the cu ft of the enclosed engine compartment. The rule of them i'd use is to assess the size, then choose the extinguisher one up from that. The smallest extinguisher is for an engine space 25 cu ft, then they go up in 25 cu ft increments. Fireboy tell me the way to measure is the physical size of the compartment less the volume of the engine. (Anyone got a displacement measurement for a PCM ZR6??)
I think my estimate would be oversized if I took the compartment at 4w x 4d x 5l = 80 cu ft, less 1/2 for engine volume, = 40 cu ft, therefore suggesting I use a 50 cu ft extinguisher.
