2006 PCM 330, oil on back spark plug housing- valve gaskets?

    Hi all,
Just installed my tuneup kit looks like Cap/rotor/wires were original.

Replace the plugs in the driver side rear had some oil on the housing of the spark plugs. Is it typical that guys replace the valve cover gaskets on these?

Or should I start with a little torque on the bolts to see if valve cover bolts had come loose?

I don't know your specific engine but generally speaking, those valve cover bolts don't take much torque at all so be careful. But I doubt that's your problem and I suspect it's the plug seal gaskets because those seal off the oil from the plugs and those do crack over time. When they fail, the plugs get oily which becomes a problem given enough time. That being said, to fix that, you have to remove the valve cover anyway so you'll get a chance to properly torque the cover bolts

What are you referring to with plug seal gaskets?

I did see online where are some 351 guys were referring to using cork washers for their valve cover bolts.

I assume you are referring to oil getting on the ceramic part of the plug?
I would replace the rocker cover gaskets if original they are now 16years old and cheap to buy. I just installed some on my boat I have pulled the motor out to give it a rattle can rebuild and installed these ones from summit https://www.summitracing.com/parts/FEL-VS50088R
The only other place I have seen oil leak from the top of the motor was the distributor base, that is sealed by a paper gasket also worth changing if you are confident enough to remove the dizzy
