Deoxit D5 for cleaning PME Relay terminals?

Does anyone have any experience using DEOXIT D5 for cleaning up electrical connections?

This socket receives the 4-prong PME Relay (new relay purchased), and I am wondering if this is salvageable.

Yikes, that oxidation has already taken any plating off the metal connectors. I would recommend a small wire brush and some alcohol to clean. Dry it and see how it looks. If it cleans up a bit, then I would pit some dielectric grease on the connectors and then connect your relay.

All that said...you should replace the connectors inside the housing. Sourcing them is going to be a pain.

That's really beyond saving. With the plating on the contacts gone, even if you get it clean they will corrode and it'll cause issues over time. Replace the contacts.

Thanks for the feedback, I like to rehab/reuse when possible. I did find all the required pieces to build a replacement thru custom connector kits.com if I have to go that route. I’d have to buy a crimping tool, but I am sure I can find another use for it down the road.

I thought the crimping tool was going to be > $100, but turned out to be $40. All in to build a new socket is only $45. Probably never would have started this post if I had known that, but thanks to all for your thoughts.

Have the parts on the way to rebuild the socket, but used the Deoxit as a temporary measure so I could test the new PME Relay. Cleaned it up pretty well; at least good enough to get the boat running. Will post a pic of the new socket when done.

I am not ashamed to say I "geeked out" on this project. Enjoyed adding a new trick to the bag.

1 - Crimper works great. Silicone seals are also crimped.

Terminals snap/lock into place easily. Green plug for unused slot.

Thumbs up on the "Ready to be installed with some heat-shrink solder connectors." That's the only way to repair wiring IMO. I never use any kind of crimp connectors for wire to wire connections on stranded low voltage wiring. Overall an impressive "if it's worth doing, do it right" repair. It'll pay dividends in downstream reliability.

Agreed with jpwhit, electrical & moisture are arch enemies.
