Automatic Bilge System

Hi guys

Can anyone describe the functional description for the Automatic Bilge System?

As I understand it.
The Bilge button on the starter panel can turn on and off the "Automatic Bilge". It is not possible to force run the pumps.

What I do not get, is how the water is detected?
I do not see any floats and I have not been able to find any conductivity sensors.
Some say that the pumps are supposed to on every 5 minutes or so, but I have never noticed that.

In the last several years, the automatic system is "load based." The pumps will turn on every few minutes and sense whether or not the pump is under load. If so, it'll continue to run until the load is gone. If there's no load, the pump will stop and check again later. I think it's something like every 7 minutes. I forget exactly. This replaces the old system with a float to detect water. These floats would hang and either cause the pump to never come on, or stay on continuously until the battery was drained.

Charles has it almost exactly right. The only thing I would mention is that the interval is 2:30, not 7:00.

I can tell you from experience that on boats with two pumps (not sure if the 200 has one or two), a single battery will run down in about a week with this left on if the boat is not being used.

Wow, that's a detailed explanation. Side note that these floatless pumps are used at least as far back as '07. They threw me for a loop at first because I had one stick on and couldn't find a float.

So if I understand the description correctly. The logic is built into the pump and if I measure the voltage on the connector I should be able to measure 12V as long as the Automatic Bilge System is on.
