Just picked up a 95 with just over 1000 hrs on the clock. Super clean. Engine feels a little slugish⦠it has the 5.8 efi engine. Not really familiar with this set up. Doesnt seem fast enough out of the hole to pull a skier up.. top speed seems a little slow as well. Thoughts??

Ah....99.9% sure that's the pro-tec EFI setup. You'll want to do some reading on that...bit of a unicorn.2004 206 Air Nautique Limited - Black with Vapor Blue (family style)

That's a Pro-Tec setup alright, but that is TBI (Throttle Body Injection), not EFI.
Your Pro-Tec is probably starting to fail. Get ready to install a conversion kit

Oh how I miss dialing in the Ford points in the disributor and trying to get the gap just right, not so much.
That is the bomb conversion kit, and Natique Parts has it priced competitively across the board (of coarse we are loyal NP).
Your spark plug gap will change to .035.
1000 hours, you are just getting broken in, not bad for a '95. Jeff will tell you he has seen a lot of hours on these boats and still pulling like an ox.
powderjay, have you done a compression test on the engine? What prop are you running?

I'm not so sure that NP kit will allow you to keep the injection. There was someone on Correct Craft Fan who figured a way to keep it. One of the problems is that the injectors can go bad and there are no alternatives other than converting to a carburetor. D.U.I. distributors and Quick Fuel carburetors are a popular way to go. Here is some home work for you- https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=...ih=609&dpr=1.5
Here is another great install- https://www.correctcraftfan.com/foru...-ignition-swap
And by the way that Pro Tec is EFI,electronic fuel injection. What it isn't is MPI, Multi Port Injection.Last edited by gary s; 11-01-2022, 06:35 PM.

Ah, good point. powderjay what top speed are you getting? Has a compression check been performed on the engine recently? If so, what are the compression numbers for each cylinder? What Prop?
Personally, I would do a lot more diagnosis before jumping into any conclusion about what may or may not be wrong with the boat. I'm not in your neck of the woods, so no advice on good marine mechanic.

I will for sure check compression numbers thanks. 4 Blade prop just not sure size. quote from local dealer was 3500 to 4k for the conversion.. seems a bit steep!
I have had a carbed 94, a gt40 96, and now this one.. surely seems sluggish compared to the others..

Throttle body injection equals sluggish. Get the Holley Snipper EFI kit and a decent distributor and your at $2K. Plus great performance.
I do agree, there is plenty of diagnosis to do before all this. Discount Inboard Marine will also help you immensely on this topic.
