I'm in the process of doing a restoration on my '98 Air (I promise as the project gets rolling more, I'll post a thread to track it in the restorations section) and I'm replacing the carpet with seadek.
I'm very inspired by others who have done this and I've extensively studied all the threads in the resto section. Specifically, Jeff's '98 Ski resto with the seadek looked particularly cool (yes, I'm debating putting some logos in my seadek too). He put the seadek on the sides of the hull, replacing the carpet that was there.
I'd really love to put seadek on the sides of the hull but I'm unsure how I'm going to make this happen with these grey plates I found underneath the carpet. So, here's some questions:
1. what are these plates (see pictures below)?
2. Is it possible to take them off? If they are structural, would it be unsafe if I did?
3. If not, how should I approach trying to put the seadek on these sides? I'm open to any ideas, I was thinking I might be able to figure out how to use epoxy/microballoons to fill the cracks between plates and smooth all of it out. Combine that with multiple pieces of seadek and it might work?
