Hi everyone, can anyone point me in the direction of a good step by step tutorial on engine removal for a 2001 Ski Nautique 196 or similar direct drive boat. Many thanks in advance.

Not too difficult.
Battery cables at switch/solenoid
Wire harness
Throttle linkage/cable
Trans linkage/cable
Exhaust hoses
Raw water hose from trans cooler (if lifting transmission with engine)
Raw water hose from raw water pump
Fuel line(s)
Perfect Pass wiring (if any)
Transmission coupler
Shower/heater hoses (if any)
Engines mounts (apply liberal amounts of 50/50 acetone and ATF to loosen them up)
Lifting rings, hoist and spreader bar
Nice and easy. Take it slow and look for anything you may have missed. No worries.

Hello, many thanks for the swift response, very much appreciated. I will be removing transmission at some point. Is there a benefit to removing transmission and then engine or removing everything together and separating later. Again, many thanks in advance.

I've only done one but that was a long time ago. At that time we were told to take them both out at the same time as it would be easier to separate them outside the boat. Worked for us as it was also easier to mate them back up and deal with the flex plate on the ground. It's been a long time but my lasting impression was that it was a lot easier than we thought it was going to be. At the time we were working on a Ski Tique and prepped the engine for removal on a Friday evening after work pretty much per Johnny's check list, had that done in less than 2 hours. Saturday morning we had the engine/trans out and the engine on a stand in less than 2 hours. Everything will depend on condition of the hardware. If this is a saltwater boat or one that hasn't had the best of care addressing any rusted/corroded fasteners early and often well in advance of the removal will greatly reduce your effort later. You may want to look at these 2 pages on You Tube for inspiration.
