Thanks Shag, I need to read up on this and the other member's project...Is your gateway for your '08 now available via Fox?

It should be yes. That should be the one in the link I provided, but I would contact them just to be sure.. It sounds like some of the ECM's varied in programming from year to year... I believe that when I inquired, they had others available - but none for 2007-2008, that's why I had to send mine in... It took several months for them to get to it - but was worth the wait.. So just check with them. The owners name is Allen.

My brothers and I own our 211 collectively. I've been on the waiting list for almost two years if I recall correctly. We received our bypass kit this past Wednesday. All white gauges for anyone wondering about the potential change to black 5''.

Has this happened to anyone... 2009 SAN TE, after entering in the code and hitting start to put it in Run mode, the gauges will come alive however the hour meter will show ".0HR" When it does this, the boat will not start up, like it's not sending a signal back to turn the starter over. All I can hear when hitting the start button is a faint click in the dash, which I assume is a relay...

It's done this randomly only a few times in the past year, and only when the boat is off and attempting to turn on. After a few minutes with the battery switch off, pressing the start button a few times, it will randomly return to its normal hour reading, and then start up just fine. Very odd and assuming related to gateway?

Hours are read from the engine ECM. Sounds like the ECM isn't always booting up. Could be it's not getting power, or it could be an issue with the ECM.

jpwhit , that's interesting on the hour reading. I know this is a different year/boat but on my 2016 200 this would not be the case.

I had to change out the multi gauge that has the tach along with the hour meter in it. Being a newer boat with a PDM and the new digital gauges, I thought the hour meter would pick up the hours from the ECM so I didn't bother to write down the hours before changing the gauge. After switching the gauge out my hour meter read .1 hours, everything else is fine. After using the boat, its clicking off hours as one would expect. Best I can tell the hour meter idoes not communicate with the ECM and just keeps elapsed time as a standalone device like the mechanical hour meter did in my pre-ECM 1986 Wellcraft did some 30+ years ago. Not a lot of progress there I guess.

Maybe the newer boats are getting this information from the ECM but my 2016, (which I personally consider newer) clearly is not. Or is there some procedure I was supposed to follow and I'm not aware of to sync the hours with the ECM? I'd love to know what that is if that's the case. Drives me a bit nuts to tell the truth.

Any boat that has an eControls ECM tracks engine hours in the ECM. That would be a few Nautique's in 2007 and all boats 2008 and beyond. You can hook up Rhinda Diacom and read the hour data out of the ECM including a histogram of hours at different RPM ranges. But that doesn't mean that other gauges, screens, and computer boxes can't also track some form of "on time" themselves. And it seems to vary from model to model and from different gauges and screens whether they track hours internally or read it from the ECM. And I certainly don't know how it's done for all the different cases. To date, I haven't seen any screen that didn't read hour data from the ECM.

Sounds like in the case of 2016 analog gauge Sport Nautique's, the multi-gauge tracks hours internally. But you should still be able to get the true hours from the ECM.

For ScottM46, if his hour meter reads 0 at certain times when the boat isn't working, and then shows the correct hours later when the boat is working, which I think is how I interpret what he's saying. Then the meter must be reading the hours from somewhere external that isn't working in the error case. And knowing that year boat has an eControls ECM, I was thinking that must be the source. But I tend to forget that boats as late as 2009 still had a medallion gateway box that also played a role in the hour data. So maybe in this case it is the gateway box and not the ECM that is causing the problem.

I know the gateway boxes get a lot of their data by talking to the ECM, and I also recall some gateway boxes only provide hour data up to 999 hours, but I don't know if the gateway tracks the hours itself, or reads it from the ECM and only supports sending up to 999 hours to the gauges due to limited number of bits for the hour data in the protocol between the gateway and the gauges. But in any case, it probably is the gateway box causing the issue in this situation. But I am curious if folks that have changed out their gateway box had the hours reset. I also wonder if anyone makes a standalone hour gauge that will read and display the hours from the ECM.

Good information, thanks for the feedback jpwhit. Good point referencing the ECM potentially not booting up. Will start with the easy connections/ground check and go from there. Intriguing comment regarding the standalone hour gauge reading directly from the ECM, I'll have to do some research on that too. The 999.9 hr issue has been in the back of my mind as I am over 2/3 of the way there.

jpwhit, I was really hoping I had to push 3 bottoms in some goofy sequence and it would change over, dang. It's always something. my depth sounder is now reading 680' and 32 degree water temp all the time. Wonder where those gems are being generated from.

ScottM46 I have an 09 210 TE and I am experiencing problems as well. No gauges light up, but the ballast gauges and keypad do. And the tach and speedometer do not work, but all of the other gauges do work minus the lighting up. This is a ZR406 boat if that makes any difference.
