    So back to the topic:

    - You can absolutely run 87 octane fuel with that engine. It WILL NOT harm the engine in any way.

    - The engine may run at reduced performance with this fuel. The ECM will adjust the timing to prevent pre-ignition (spark knock) which will reduce the performance.

Waveslayer I love those VP cans, none any finer. With all the petroleum restrictions in CA I'm surprise you can even purchase those type of cans there

On the VP cans..... Costco won't let me fill them at their gas pumps, well at least one of the women attendants won't and she works the morning shift when I go there most times. She states that they're not DOT approved and therefore cannot be filled at any gas station in Michigan. Costco is the only place that has hassled me when trying to fill up and in particular this one attendant. none of the others bother me. She may be right but honestly, I think it's more of a power trip than anything else.

LOL, I have these cheapo VP knock-offs. They specificially state that they are not for gasoline (I'm sure because they're vented), so I surely never use them to fill the boats! But if I were to use them for gasoline, they would work quite well.

I'd prefer not to lug gas cans. Space will be limited because of the layout and having 4 families on the houseboat. Can't place them on shore, I guess I could if I wanted to bait some bears, but they aren't in season when we are going... could help save on meat and blankets if we bagged a bear using gas as bait. In CA your can't ship those cans. I have 10 just don't need the extra work.
just wanted to see if others use octane booster or not

I really don't think octane booster is a good solution here. There seem to be very few success stories with it.
