2005 pcm 330 data link/gateway box wiring - Boat wont start if unplugged

Hey everyone, currently having some issues using a codemate on my 2005 super air with the pcm 330. I just put a new motor and trans in the boat and got it running but if I unplug the data link connector that has a black and gray wire running to the gateway box the boat stalls when running and if it’s unplugged will not crank. Is there a way to bypass the gateway box so that the datalink plug can be used with the codemate to check codes/set base timing. Would Really appreciate your help! I can add pics if would help.

Every time I’ve used codemate, it’s been to read/clear codes with the engine not running. I wasn’t aware it could be used any other way.

Yes it puts it into service mode so you can set the base timing, or at least it’s supposed to. My problem is not with the codemate itself but the fact that unplugging the gateway from the data link shuts the boat off and disables it from starting.

You shouldn't have to unplug anything. There should be a separate diagnostic connector that doesn't have anything plugged in normally.
