Safety cord clipped on? Neutral lockout in place?

That safety cord is a good one and it bit me yesterday at the launch on a friends boat. Took me close to 10 minutes to figure it out. I never pull mine off so it took a bit for that to register for me as a possible issue.

Is it in neutral? If so try wiggling it, move the lever in and out of gear, forward then reverse, then to neutral again. Depending on the year, if the boat is not sensing it's in neutral it will act like this.

Next would be to recheck your wiring/connections at the battery. Really look and make sure ALL the wires/cables are connected correctly.

Lastly, some boats have a 50 amp breaker on the motor with a red reset button. Don't know if your boat does but I've seen these inadvertently tripped for what would appear no reason. Take a look and see if you have one and if so see if it will reset.
