Good afternoon, Mark. Many use some sort of "Tee" in the line to accept a garden hose. You can also use the 5 gallon bucket method by putting the running garden hose and the hose to the impeller in the bucket and let the engine pull it in. The other method is the "fake-a-lake" system that looks like a plunger that props underneath the boat to provide water via the thru-hull inlet.

I myself like the "tee" fitting and a garden hose. I take a hose off of the water strainer (outlet side) and put it in so that it slants down toward the engine. Mine has a clear piece of tubing so that I can see that it is taking water. And doing it this way, the excess water simply drains out of the inlet in the bottom of the boat instead of building up pressure. YOu can see what I am talking about here: https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...h-tee-question

Thank you I think my motor is sealed cooling. it already has a tee where the fresh water flush hooks in to the 1 1/4 line coming from the sea strainer I just want to know iff the ball valve on the intake in the hull has to be closed when I turn the water on. don't know quite how the water pump on the engine is connected to the cooling system or if there is a stand alone pump Thanks agin for your help

Then you are set. Hook up the hose to the flush and go. There is a fresh water pump with a replaceable impeller to pump the lake water into the system to the intercooler. There is a separate pump to pump the antifreeze coolant throught the engine. The lake water cools the engine water in the intercooler. If you close the ball valve, it may build up too much pressure. (I dont clamp my joints, as I use mine temporarily and the pressure blows them apart) I dont close the ball valve because the fresh water hookup is lower toward the engine and it takes the water just fine when running but lets the water out through the bottom before I start and after I shut down. I would think the ball valve is there to close if you are flushing it at the dock.
