    1986 SN 2001 Windshield Glass

A tree fell in my yard and smashed the front windshield glass on my 1986 SN 2001. The frame seems in good shape, but I am having difficulties finding info on replacement glass. I've seen on this forum it needs a flat piece of 1/8th inch tempered glass. I need a little more info about the dimensions. The top rail looks to be about 65 1/4 and the bottom about 67 inches. Do order a trapezoidal piece? Do I need to order a bit longer to account for when it bends in the frame? Does anyone know the exact dimensions? Onedayglass charges $150 for the glass and I want to get things right the first time.

    Thanks,
    Trey

Ironically, someone posted here 4 days ago with glass for a 1986 SN available. Take a look in the history.

I saw that. It's the frame and glass. He wants $600 and local pickup.

I am going to try to make a template out of cardboard to fine tune the dimensions before I order the glass. We'll see how that goes.

      Thanks

Cardboard was too flimsy to be an accurate template. I had a local supplier cut a piece of acrylic to the rough dimension. After a bazillion attempts the dimensions that worked were top edge 64 5/8", bottom edge 66 5/8" with a height of 19 1/2". Trapezoid. The acrylic was $46.

I suspect my top rail was slightly deformed when the tree fell on it. It has much less of a radius than the bottom rail. This leads me to suspect glass may not work unless I replace the frame as well. Everything looks fine it's just glass is not as forgiving as the acrylic when it comes to shape. If I have issues with the acrylic I will go from there.

        Thanks.
