    GPS mapping interface

    Hi,

My 2021 GS22 did not come equipped with GPS mapping interface on the linc panoray. I was wondering if I needed the buy the dongle, or if a simple USB or SD card can be inserted to upload into the existing system ? Is it possible to get the Navionics interface on the screen ? or is it a different one ?

I have been using Navionics on my cell phone for the past few years when cruising with my 2008 SAN230, and I was looking forward to having the map on a big screen instead of my Iphone.

    thanks.

It's an SD card that plugs into the back of the Linc screen. It doesn't upload, you just permanently install the SD card and the screen just reads maps off the SD card as needed. There is a little waterproof cover attached by 2 screws on the back of the Linc screen. You remove that cover, insert the SD card, and then replace the cover. At least this is how it worked on models I've checked in the 2014 - 2018 range. I guess it could have changed, but I'd be surprised.

Thanks jpwhit, I'll go have a look under the steering wheel.
When I spoke with my dealer, he seemed pretty sure that I need the dongle, which is more $$$.
      I'll post my findings.

I have not taken the time to explore beneath the helm yet. My navionics subscription on my phone app expires in august. So at some point I will feel the urgency to do so. Up unitl now I just seem to want to ski and surf.

I have re spoken with the dealer who seems adamant. the 2017+ linc panorays need the dongle, not a simple sd card...

It's certainly possible that 2017 may be the breakpoint where it switched from an SD card to a dongle. Is the screen larger than 7 inches? If so, then that would make it more likely the dealer is correct and that's when the format changed.
